Case Study

The core of a pickleball paddle is made up of a honeycomb structure, and the number of cells within that structure directly affects the paddle’s performance. A paddle core with more cells has smaller individual cells, creating a denser and more rigid surface.

From a physics perspective, this density reduces the energy lost during impact by better distributing and reflecting the force applied when hitting the ball. This results in increased power, as more of the energy from your swing transfers back into the ball. Additionally, the smaller cells dampen vibrations more effectively, providing a smoother feel while still maximizing the energy transfer.

In summary, a higher cell count enhances energy efficiency and power output, giving you stronger, more consistent shots with improved control.

Competing top paddles are 21-25 cells across, the Slingshot is 32!

Where the Havoc M3 is a great replacement for the Selkirk Luxx, this paddle is more for those who may have used the Vanguard Power Air or other power paddles. This paddle favors power and you can feel the “slingshot” effect, but it does have pretty good control and touch for a power paddle as well.

Good surface for putting spin on the ball. Light weight for quick hand movements.

I’m loving this paddle! Nice control, great pop and my roll volleys seem to happen much more naturally for me with more topspin. At 14mm thick it’s a lighter paddle, typically 7.8 oz, but I weighted mine up to 8.3 oz with a 0.1 oz POACH lead tape strip on each side and a POACH overgrip. It’s PERFECT!

M3 has a softer feel and I need more hits for the ‘pop’ and power of the Slingshot to get under control. Once snow melts the ball machine will be busy. I like the potential for moving my game to next level of the Slingshot.
