My Experience With Owl Pickleball
I’ve personally used several Owl paddles, including the CXE, PXE and Talon X1, and I’ve been extremely impressed with them.
What stands out most to me is the unique textured surface. The paddles excel at control and spin, and the texture helps grab the ball and generate spin.
They’re also unusually quiet compared with many pickleball paddles, which is something I really appreciate.
Owl Talon X1
The Talon X1 is my favorite Owl paddle.
It has a combination of power, control, spin and touch, while also being very quiet. For me, it’s the paddle in the Owl lineup that does everything well.
If you want a high-performance paddle that can handle pretty much every part of the game, this is the Owl I’d look at first.
Owl PXE
The PXE is basically a less expensive version of the Talon X1.
It has a slightly smaller sweet spot, but it’s still a very good paddle and compares favorably with much more expensive paddles.
If you like what the Talon offers but don’t want to spend as much, the PXE is worth considering.
Owl Silent Storm SS1
The Silent Storm SS1 has the same type of textured surface that makes the other Owl paddles interesting, but at a much lower price.
I think it’s a particularly interesting option for beginner and intermediate players who want good spin and control without spending a lot on a paddle.
Who Should Consider Owl Pickleball?
I’d particularly consider Owl if you:
- Like generating a lot of spin
- Prefer a textured paddle surface
- Value control and touch
- Want a quieter paddle
- Have tennis elbow
- Want something different from the typical pickleball paddle
And there’s a fun factor, too. The combination of spin and the unusual sound of these paddles can definitely get into your opponents’ heads.
